The food at this plainly named place, not far from the rear end of the Bronx Botanical Garden, is stupendous, and many of the best things issue from the hill country towns of southern Puebla. There's mole de olla -- a rich beef soup loaded with hand-carved vegetables, so hot you're guaranteed to break a sweat--and hand-patted masa cakes called tlaycoyos, heaped with spicy red pork tidbits smothered in crema, dried cheese, and strips of pickled cactus. Yee-ha! Now decorated with 3-D Aztec motifs (Is that a human sacrifice on one wall?), the restaurant was once a Dominican place called La Rey de Pernil. And damned if they don't still make a decent Cuban sandwich.
