Maybe falafel was alien to Amsterdam when this chain introduced it there in 1991, but we've had it much longer, courtesy of Lebanese and Israeli immigrants. Still, this fast food franchise is militantly vegetarian, the pitas are fresh and homemade, and, though there's not much inside seating, Union Square Park looms across the street, making for perfect al fresco dining. Another lure is the salad bar, allowing you to dress your falafel sandwich with all sorts of pickled, salty, hot, and sour things. While the so-called Belgian fries are just so-so, the fresh-squeezed orange juice alone might be worth a visit. There is a second location in the area at 59 E. 8th St.
