You might know Masa from its frequent designation as "New York City's most expensive restaurant" by numerous media publications. It's probably true; an omakase dinner here will cost you at least $400. Is it worth it? Well, three Michelin stars say so. The man behind the sushi bar is Masa Takayama, who moved to New York from L.A. in 2004. It's hard to tell what he'll serve on any given night, seeing as how he chooses his menu according to what's fresh and seasonal that day. You can, however, always expect the highest quality fish treated with extreme reverence, along with a host of dishes like uni risotto, foie gras and other delicacies. The sake and wine selection is just as carefully thought out (and expensive). The whole affair takes place in a serene, 26-seat dining room complete with traditional Japanese design elements like screens, lacquered wood and bamboo, a nice respite from buzzing Midtown located right outside of the restaurant's home in the Time Warner Center. —Keith Wagstaff
