This micro eatery in Boerum Hill specializes in one thing: the smoked meat of Montreal"s Jewish community, which is a close cousin of New York pastrami. The extensively cooked brisket has been evolving since the place opened, and now it"s nearly perfect when deposited on rye bread with an assertive mustard. There are a couple of other sandwiches, too, including the Ruth Wilensky--a sort of hot-pressed Canadian panino featuring salami, named after a beloved deli in Montreal"s Mile End district, the historic Jewish neighborhood, which lies north of the Plateau. A more ambitious dinner menu has been installed in the evening, but we like the place"s identity as a sandwich shop just fine.
