Offering white-tablecloth dining and a slightly more casual, Mediterranean vibe, Molyvos Restaurant features the largest all-Greek wine list in the United States. Based in the Wellington Hotel in Midtown West, Greek-Mediterranean restaurant Molyvos is a bit pricey, and caters to a theater crowd--it’s only a block from Carnegie Hall. But with price comes good service, including a coat check, attentive wait staff, and complimentary pre-meal bread and spreads. The broad menu at Molyvos offers everything from a snack and drink at the bar, to multi-course meals--including brunch. Traditional Greek offerings are best. The restaurant’s signature dish is its rich moussaka, but the baked lamb shank in a clay pot, Melitzanosalata (eggplant dip), spanakopita, and tzatziki are all recommended. The restaurant received a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2012, so if you’re already there, and spending, it’s only logical to ask for a recommendation, and then sip with delight. You’d never have to pay so much for the bottle on the Mediterranean coast, but it’ll cost much more for the plane tickets. In the meantime, you have the Q train. --Diana Clarke
