Down came long-running Meriken, and up went Momoya, trading the former's spiky Statue of Liberty crown for big garage doors in front, an open layout, and board ends embedded in the walls, which might just remind you of a lumberyard. The sushi is of stunning freshness, and some of the reworked Japanese is impressive. We dug the sardine tempura in its thick wasabi vinaigrette, and the warm mushroom salad heaped on buttery and slightly bitter chicory. But the complex lobster roll bombed, and so did the fluke carpaccio flavored with mint and grapefruit.
