Enter through the Roosevelt Avenue entrance and go down the escalators into this former Caldor basement, now turned into a glitzy food court with 28 eating establishments and seating for more than 500. Wow! Of course the food is uneven, and generally oriented toward Taiwanese tastes, but one of those tastes is now apparently Sichuan food, and six stalls serve a version of it. Best is SzeChuan Cuisine, where you can get appetizers sluiced with chili oil--but no Sichuan peppercorns, alas! The counter called Lanzhou Handmade Noodles has some of the best of that type in the city, and Beijing Cuisine is notable for its "cold-skin" noodles. Other establishments feature whole lobsters cooked six ways, bubble teas and shaved ice desserts, and Malaysian fare that isn't half bad at very, very cheap prices.
