New York City Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence Project (AVP)

New York, NY 10001

AVP is the primary crime-victim assistance agency for the abused members of New York's LGBT community. The Project is more than 20 years old, and has grown from a small volunteer group into an equal rights advocate as well as a service agency for those in need, whether the need be HIV medical services and counseling or a peer group for rape victims. Extensive (30-hour) training is necessary to work on the groupas victimas hotline, but volunteers are needed for special events and long-term programs.
