This modern Off-Broadway theater was founded by Stephen Graham in 1979, and has since been the founding site of acclaimed productions such as Jonathan Larson's RENT and Doug Wright's Quills. Both a performance space and a theater laboratory, the New York Theatre Workshop is dedicated to preserving a space for artists in the community to work and experiment. It is located off the Bowery in the midst of numerous lively bars and restaurants in the East Village and Noho area. The 199-seat room creates an intimate viewing atmosphere, with $20 reduced-price seats every Sunday. Washington Square Park, NYU, and several subway lines are a short walk away.
