Don't let the ponderous name or dark, spooky premises in an old row house dissuade you from visiting this restaurant specializing in Kyoto cuisine, a branch of a Japanese mini-chain. Known as omen, the udon alone is worth a visit, the noodles steaming in a black bowl surmounted by a chamber of colorful wads of add-ins and sided with a dark, sweet broth. Sashimi, too, is impeccable (no sushi), as are all the standard snacks, including filet mignon barely seared and sponged with a sweet chive broth. For the well-off, there are kaiseki meals.
