This space directly at the top of the subway stairs as you exit from the southbound West 4th Street station has been many things in the last decade. Most recently, it"s become a brightly lit Turkish café, offering the complete range of grilled meats, doner kebabs (a/k/a schwarma and gyro) of chicken and lamb (pick chicken), and all the magnificent vegetarian appetizers we"ve come to know and love-eggplant done three ways, hummus, stewed kidney beans, and--our favorite--the baked pastry flutes filled with cheese, spinach, or potato called kol boregi. The secret backyard seating area, far from the hubbub of Sixth Avenue, is the real glory of this place.
