Though this place grandly styles their product "pizza Romana," it's more like New York pizza with a tougher, denser crust. The pizza is also rather expensive, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying its uniqueness--New York is the world's greatest pizza town, after all, and there's plenty of room for variations. Pala's appetizers are exquisite, including a far-flung charcuterie platter, and a heap of cod fritters decorated with fried rosemary. In addition to the usual mozzarella and tomato concoctions, the pizza menu features a great pie wherein the combination of pumpkin and smoked scamorza cheese bakes up light as bechamel.
