This tiny Italian café gives East Village residents yet another good coffee option in a neighborhood swimming in quality java. While affordably priced espresso is a major draw, owner Alessandra Veronese also tempts passersby with pastries from her native Venice. Tiramisu, available in flavors like chocolate, amaretto and apple-raisin, is Veronese's specialty, although she also serves things like cookies, tarts, cakes and Danishes. During the lunch, the normally quiet café gets a little busier as workers stop in for Panini sandwiches filled with things like smoked turkey and pesto or goat cheese and caramelized onions. Later, those looking for a snack come in for bruschetta topped with ingredients such as ricotta and wild mushrooms, plus small appetizers like spicy olives and pears with gorgonzola cheese. Freelancers and bored web-surfers can come in to the small shop, decorated with white brick, vintage posters and a bright red counter, to take advantage of the free Wi-Fi.—Keith Wagstaff
