The setting couldn"t be more charming: an ancient town house with rococo detailing, including heavy carpets and draperies, for that Gothic Turkish evening. There"s a small front room, a dining gallery, a rear dining room, and even a front micro-patio. The food is doctrinaire--very well prepared, but a little on the expensive side. Nevertheless, the grilled lamb chops are superb and smoky, the cigar bureks appropriately crisp and cheesy, and there"s even a vegetarian entrée (sebzeli guvec) that tastes as good as the lamb ones. While the fish are a bit pallid, the yogurtlu kebab--strips of doner in both yogurt and tomato sauce on a bed of toasted pita cubes--is everything you hoped it would be.
