This somewhat popular Vietnamese lunch spot in Chinatown doesn't offer much in the ways of frills but, hey, at least it¹s cheap, with bowls of pho noodle soup maxing out at $6. Walk down off Mott Street into the tiny subterranean space, outfitted simply with a few wooden tables topped with silverware and spicy Sriracha sauce. The menu should look pretty familiar to anyone who regularly frequents any of Chinatown¹s many Vietnamese restaurants. There are bowls of pho, the soup made of rice noodles, meat (often beef) and a broth rich in spices like cinnamon and star anise. Other classic Vietnamese dishes are also on the menu: a marinated and grilled pork chop served over rice, sautéed chicken served with a chili-lemongrass sauce, marinated beef cubes and more. Wash it down with a Vietnamese coffee, which combines dark espresso with sweet condensed milk, or a salty lemonade made from pickled lemons.—Keith Wagstaff
