This mammoth gallery conglomerate occupies an entire warehouse space, where it commissions or absorbs a series of resident and rotating conceptual projects. Named after the Greek sea god and neighboring canal, it has been integral in transforming the otherwise lackluster Gowanus neighborhood into an emergent artistic destination. Located in a former box factory from 1900, its rough facade can be confusing and intimidating, but once inside its a wonderland of functional mini musuems like the Morbid Anatomy Library and the Observatory collective. It's situated in a rather industrial stretch of Brooklyn, but high-end restaurants, bars, and boutique shopping are a short walk away in nearby Carroll Gardens.
