It"s maddening how similar Ethiopian menus in the city are, and at Red Sea 47 you won"t find much that"s novel or unusual. Which is OK, because the food tastes decidedly fresher than at many other Ethiopian joints in town. As always, the vegetarian assortment of lentil-based stews and poached greens is the best thing on the menu, colorfully spread across its bed of the fermented flatbread called injera (you eat with your fingers, not a knife and fork). Other favorites include the national dish of doro wat (chicken and boiled egg) and menchet abesh-sauteed beef tidbits deglazed with wine and thickened with chick-pea flour.
