River Deli sits on a bucolic block near the East River, where leafy trees obscure the rush of the nearby BQE. The owners hail from Sardinia, and their menu includes staples from that Italian island. For instance, there's malloreddus sardi alla campidanese, a small pasta flavored with just a bit of saffron and dressed in a simple, bright tomato sauce with marble-sized sausage balls. The antipasto of steamed asparagus is particularly fine: enriched with b├ęchamel sauce and diced prosciutto and served on the crisp Sardinian flatbread called pane carasau.
