This modern lounge-like sake bar specializes in artisan varieties of the drink sourced from Japanese microbreweries. The selection at Sake Bar Kirakuya is divided into wine-reminiscent categories like "aroma," "smooth," and "rich." There's a reasonable lunch menu, as well as a large selection of appetizers and tapas complete with sake pairing suggestions. The catering is clearly to the after work crowd on the migration to Penn Station two blocks away. But, probably for this reason, the happy hour specials are competitive, and keep the discreet second floor restaurant from getting lost in the West 30's bustle. Five bottles of beer and five chicken wings for $20 certainly satisfies.
