This South Street Seaport restaurant attempts to conjure the Caribbean with its crisp white paint job and numerous palm fronds, not to mention its menu. Don't expect anything too authentic, though; tourists do make up a sizable portion of its clientele. Still, grilled pork chops come with sweet plantains and oven-roasted chicken with boiled yucca. A few dishes hail from other portions of the Spanish-speaking world, like the Argentinean-style skirt steak and the seafood paella with saffron rice. People come here just as much for the cocktails as they do for the food; especially popular is the sangria (available by the pitcher) and the flavored mojitos, which come in coconut, mango and vanilla flavors. There is also a small selection of wines from Spain and South America and beers from Mexico and Brazil. Call in before heading over to see if they¹ve booked one of the live Latin jazz bands that occasionally stop in to play a few sets.—Keith Wagstaff
