This well lit and comparatively unadorned Italian eatery defies the principles of modern restaurant design-you'll feel like you're in a new tract house in the suburbs. The food is often right on, including a plebian stew of white beans and sausage, a pinkish mass of papardelle with a cream-laced sauce featuring chunks of American bacon, and a lamb shank of concentrated flavor poised on a bed of lentils, as if about to become airborne. The BYOB policy is a boon, too, but we came to this conclusion as we happily ate: The food, while good, isn't quite Italian.
