Although the theme at this West Village wine bar is the French Revolution, the food is pretty straightforward. Share a lovely snack of croque mademoiselles or smoky chicken croquettes with hot, milky insides, as you search for the (often aimless) servers to bring you something sparkling. Diners looking for a more lush experience can nibble on straight-from-the-oven escargots in hot, garlicky butter with a side of Parmesan-dusted french fries. This cozy neighborhood spot welcomes groups of women catching up over a glass of wine and chic older couples looking to share their travel stories. And while nothing about the wine bar is revolutionary, Sel et Gras is a nice spot to have a drink with friends.
