A classic East Village dive, the Karpaty Pub (a/k/a Sly Fox) is exactly what you'd expect: non-seasonal Christmas lighting, cheap mirror tiles stuck to the low ceiling, cheaper pitchers of beer. It does have its quirks, though. It's located in the small Ukrainian district of the East Village, nuzzled between the inimitable Veselka diner and the unadorned Ukrainian Restaurant. Funny little drawings of a Lys Mykyta (or Sly Fox) are scattered about the room, serving as cryptic political allegories. Everyone is too blissfully drunk to notice.
