Emma Hearst, the young, tattooed woman running the kitchen, is a bit of a prodigy; she started running the restaurant in her early '20s, where she promptly started getting enthusiastic reviews from normally stodgy critics. The space has a hip, youthful vibe. Enter through an entrance on Allen Street to find a dining room outfitted with curved wooden ceilings, glowing wine racks, white brick and funky potted plants. The menu consists of shareable plates of Piedmont cuisine. Choose from dishes like crispy grilled veal sweetbreads with passion-fruit bacon sauce and a killer kale salad topped with squash, toasted almonds and Pecorino, as well as pastas like the oxtail risotto and agnolotti with beef short ribs, parmesan and sage butter. The long wine list features 25 wines by the glass and more than 150 by the bottle, with the majority of them from Northern Italy, all complemented by a selection of Italian and American craft beers on tap.—Keith Wagstaff
