There are only two items on the menu: pizza and chocolate chip cookies. Both are fired in the gigantic coal oven that dominates the center of the room. The pizzas are thin-crusted and oblong; one of them feeds a hungry person. It's as though the pizza-makers haven't quite mastered the fire-breathing oven yet--some crusts are perfect, lightly dappled with char, while others are straight up burned, with black, carbonized patches. But you can get a mighty fine clam pie, strewn with freshly shucked clams, lots of garlic and parsley, and tiny bits of bacon. The margherita is also worthy, brightened with whole leaves of basil. Chocolate chip cookies come without fanfare, on wax paper, chocolate chips still molten. SBP is a quality, lively neighborhood spot, but it isn't dethroning DiFara's anytime soon.
