New York has street eats aplenty, but Indian street food is curiously lacking. So we were excited to see that Floyd Cardoz is selling bhel puri, frankies and kulfi from a cart across from Madison Square Park. The bhel puri, a spicy-sweet-sour mix of crunchy fried vermicelli, puffed rice and boiled potatoes, is tasty but doesn't quite manage the flavorful oomph it should have ; so tell the counterperson to make yours with plenty of chutney. Frankies are the main event, and they are fantastic. Basically Mumbai burritos, these wraps are made with egg-washed rotis wrapped around garlicky, mint-chutney-smeared chicken tikka. Don't forget the refreshingly tart pomegranate lemonade.
