Middle Eastern restaurant serves up cheap falafel and shawarma to NYU students and hungry office workers on lunch break. Behind a brown, curved counter sits the rotating shawarma ovens, slowly cooking large piles of dripping lamb, ready to cut for pita sandwiches also filled with hummus, tahini and chopped vegetables. Also available in sandwich form: falafel, chicken kebab, and eggplant. Platters come filled with the aforementioned mains along with rice with chickpeas, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, hummus, tahini and pita bread. While there are a few small copper tables surrounded by little stools, most people get their food to go, although eating here isn't entirely unpleasant; it's small but modern looking, with giant graphics of chickpeas and spices on the walls and a large flat-screen TV. Portions are considerable, meaning most people leave relatively full for their money, with students getting discounts of 20 percent with their ID.—Keith Wagstaff
