Watch out, Mamoun's, you've got some competition. Foodies and critics galore have been praising this hip little falafel joint in the West Village ever since it opened in 2005. The draw is the pita sandwiches, available in three variations: the Sabich (fried eggplant, hardboiled egg, hummus, Israeli salad and tahini sauce), falafel made with cilantro-parsley-mint, spicy Tunisian spices or roasted pepper served with Israeli salad, hummus and tahini, and plain hummus. Each of the above is also available in a platter or with extra toppings like feta cheese and Kalamata olives. The vegetarian shop also features some healthy, fresh-blended smoothies in flavors like date-lime-banana, strawberry-raspberry-Thai basil and pear-mint-lemon. The space is small and funky, with bright green walls, baskets of fruit and a menu written in colored chalk above the counter. The only seating is a line of stools against a counter at the front window, although on nice days people take their sandwiches outside on the wooden stools to people-watch on Waverly Place.—Keith Wagstaff
