Julian Medina brings upscale Mexican cuisine to the Upper East Side with an offshoot of his midtown restaurant, Toloache. Along with the many tasty tacos (which even include a Oaxacan grasshopper rendition, featuring critters flown in from Mexico), you'll find fancier fare like short ribs in mole sauce, roasted garlic shrimp, and pretty good guac (try the rojo, which gets its rust color from chipotle peppers). Some dishes don’t work (ceviches were overly acidic on a recent visit), but the multi-room space accommodates both quiet dinner dates and lively margarita-fueled nights at the bar.
