Chef Julian Medina's casual taqueria is a godsend for Financial District workers looking for a good, quick lunch. Medina¹s first restaurant Toloache, in Midtown, made its name with modern, innovative Mexico City fare. His tiny FiDi joint takes that concept and gives it a casual spin for diners on the go. A huge blackboard takes up the wall behind the counter, listing the menu in brightly colored chalk, which a small army of employees in black T-shirts prepares behind glass partitions. Tacos and burritos come stuffed with your choice of Mexican chocolate-glazed pork, chipotle-marinated chicken, tilapia with tomato chipotle salsa and mushrooms with tomatillo salsa and queso fresco. Also on the menu are thick tortas filled with either roast pork, grilled chicken or brisket, plus a small selection of salads and soups. The drink menu goes way beyond fountain sodas with aguas frescas, Jarrittos sodas and Mexican Coca-Cola made with cane sugar.—Keith Wagstaff
