As its name would suggest, this East Village restaurant boasts a large, leafy back garden that draws big crowds once the weather warms up. Not to say eating inside is unpleasant; the narrow dining room is warmly appointed with exposed brick, rustic wooden furniture, flickering candles and walls hung with photographs and oil paintings. The menu is contemporary American with Italian and French influences, including dishes like seared scallops with parsnip puree, mushroom risotto, grilled pork loin with fig jus, and pulled pork served with homemade slaw. The modest wine list features a variety of Old World wines available by the glass, bottle and half-bottle, with four beers available on tap. During the summer, a reservation is probably a good idea, as each of the wooden tables outside, enclosed by a plant-strewn stone wall, will probably be taken. Delivery is available in the neighborhood with a $15 minimum order.—Keith Wagstaff
