Forget about ramen and soba for a minute. This narrow walk-down den on the St. Marks tenderloin specializes in the white wormy pasta called udon-served cold or hot, mainly in soups. You can choose an additional ingredient to dump in your soup: freshly fried tempura, or wadded soy-flavored beef, or mountain vegetables. Bargain set meals are also available, including a basic noodle soup served with pickles, rice, and an entrée meat, from a roster of pork cutlets, salmon fillets, and fried chicken. There are Japanese curries, too, making this joint a great utility spot for inexpensive Japanese dining. Warning: Don't expect any sushi or sashimi.
