The inside of this historic theater has been described as a "delirious masterpiece." The guilded Byzantinian/Cambodian architecture is certainly able to provoke vertiginous awe. Founded in 1930 and formerly the Loews 175th Street Theater, this movie palace-turned-live music venue has hosted big-name acts like Bob Dylan, Adele, and the Smashing Pumpkins. Today it is owned by the Christ Community United Church, good to know if you like a side of prayer with your rock-and-roll. It's location in the only gently gentrified Hudson Heights section of Washington Heights provides and off-the-beaten-theater-row charm. The 175th Street A train stop is just one block away.
