Good glass-firing studios are few and far between, but that's okay, because this one is huge. UrbanGlass is housed in a 17,000 square foot workshop with open access equipment serving 200 resident artists on 14 kilns. It also features a walk-in gallery space exhibiting a rotating collection of artists. Classes in glass blowing, bead making, stained glass, and other tricks of the trade are offered, often taught by the artists themselves. Nestled in Fort Greene, it's a low key shop that feels spacious and neighborly, even for Brooklyn. While still mostly a residential 'hood, the surrounding restaurants and bars are particularly quaint.
