Forging into uncharted territory, Veloce Pizzeria invents the designer Sicilian pizza, with a crust midway between Neapolitan and neighborhood Sicilian, something like the crust you find in the finer Staten Island places like Denunzio's. We particularly adored the sausage pie, but found the porcini pizza a little less interesting. There are five pies offered in all, and a small handful of starters that include cheese and charcuterie assortments, salads, and, best of all, a frito misto that includes fresh herbs and little cubes of fried cheese. The place looks just like Bar Veloce inside, and the wine list is oriented toward southern Italy, and reasonably cheap, with many bottles around $30.
