This project of chef Pichet Ong (Spice Market, Pong) represents so many types of eateries--coffee house, pastry shop, bistro, wine bar--that you may have trouble deciding which route to take. The bravura display of pastries when you first come in the door--and ooh and ah at the marble-and-stained-wood décor, reminiscent of nearby Balthazar--includes several Ong signatures, such as the carrot cake with caramel frosting, and the chocolate Nutella torte. You can enjoy these in the long narrow coffee bar, or go through the door to the tiny dining room, where highlights include a three-mushroom tart, beef short rib braised in apple cider, chicken pot pie, and meatballs in Japanese tomato curry.
