This second-story restaurant, located above midtown spot Sugiyama, is small and packed with a predominantly Japanese clientele, who crowd in after work for a taste of authentic yakitori fare. Claim one of the few wooden tables or sit behind the bar (where the chefs work the grill right in front of you) and order a round of Japanese beers, sake or shochu cocktails. Chicken is the focus here, skewered and grilled in a wide variety of forms. Pick from crisp chicken skin and gizzards to wings and chunks of chicken breast with wasabi and salt. Warning: The cooking style is classic Japanese, meaning your chicken might be a little pink. There are other skewers as well, like garlic, prawns and enoki mushrooms wrapped in bacon. If you don't feel like eating anything off the grill, you can always choose from rice and noodle dishes, homemade tofu and much more.—Keith Wagstaff
