Sushi's the thing at this restaurant in the basement of Washington Irving's crib. The pieces of salmon, yellowtail, and tuna flop luxuriantly over well-made lozenges of rice, glistening with freshness; but watch out for the sashimi and chirashi?the fillets are so big, it's difficult to manage them with chopsticks. Other Japanese fare is generally unremarkable, except for items on the specials menu, such as a recently sampled nori roll made with soba, crab leg, and avocado. The noodles protruding from the end of each slice were deep-fried to Medusa-like effect.
