When West Village mainstay Alfama closed in 2009, Portuguese food fans were beside themselves. But the restaurant has triumphantly reopened, this time in a bi-level, modern, tiled and wood-paneled spot on 52nd Street. You'll still find tasty standards, like the Manila clams in white wine, broa bread with pulled lamb and dried fruit, and grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes. Entrees skew toward seafood, but you'd be remiss not to order the hearty and delectable sautéed pork loin garnished with clams. Alfama now also has an on-site bakery with specialty breads available for purchase.
