64 W. 10th St. New York, NY 10011 | West Village | 212-505-7777

Location Description:

Small plates and romance are on the menu at this cozy West Village tapas spot. The menu skews towards Spain, although an eclectic, global influence pervades the cooking. If you're feeling flush with cash you can order the entire menu for $420, although most people opt for three or four dishes per person. Fried goat cheese with lavender-infused honey, pulled-pork empanadas and the confit octopus ceviche all point towards the non-traditional style of chef Harrison Mosher, who earned his stripes as sous-chef at 71 Clinton Fresh Food with Wylie Dufresne. The two-story townhouse is undeniably charming; walk down off the street, past the long bar and nab a seat upstairs, where iron latticework lines the balcony looking down on the rest of the restaurant. If you're on a date (and many of the diners are), you might want to secure a seat next to the roaring, stone-lined fireplace. Another good idea for a date: booze. A lengthy list of Italian, French and Spanish wines, specialty cocktails and craft beers should help things get off to a good start.—Keith Wagstaff
