In contrast to the Brooklyn-chic, Manhattan-priced restaurants and boutiques that surround it, East Coast Aliens remains housed in a graffittied Greenpoint industrial garage. It's a charming marker of first-wave gentrification, that time after the Williamsburg renaissance but before the Polish neighborhood fully shook off its grit and followed suit. In the sofa-studded salon it hosts weekly indie and underground film screenings with the occassional ho-down, while the studio is rented out for photo and video shoots or music recordings. It is also home to the not-quite-on-kilter Miss Greenpoint pageant. The G train is just around the corner on Manhattan Avenue, but it's possible to hike from the L.
