El Mio Cid

50 Starr St. Brooklyn, NY 11237 | Brooklyn | 718-628-8300

Location Description:

It’s rare to see a full-blown Spanish restaurant that’s not at least 30 years old, yet El Mio Cid (named after the epic poem) in Bushwick is a relative newcomer. As such, it places a greater emphasis on tapas rather than main courses. Thrill to bargain selections like a giant plate of warm herbed olives or a chorizo brought bubbling in a crock with gravy, or a trio of perfectly cooked sardines. For vegetarians, there are selections galore, including white asparagus with an agreeable relish, a newfangled salad of shredded fennel, and an assortment of mushrooms sautéed in garlic sauce. Entrees largely fall flat, though there’s a vegetarian paella that is justifiably celebrated. Plenty of seating in the dark atmospheric dining room, incongruously decorated with a picture of Vincent van Gogh.
