30 St. Marks Place New York, NY 10003 | East Village | 646-476-2324

Location Description:

This Vancouver chain--which now includes three carts and one brick-and-mortar store in that city--is betting that New Yorkers will take to expensive franks heaped with traditional Japanese ingredients. Not a bad idea. The roster of toppings includes shredded nori, grated daikon, miso paste, Kewpie-doll mayo, Nipponese curry sauce, and chopped scallions. There are choices among sausages, too, beyond the normal hot dog (bratwurst, turkey and veggie dogs, for example), but all are a bit bland if not extensively topped. Should you go to this place? At least once, for the novelty, but whether you keep on going depends on just how wonderful you think this reconfiguring of America's favorite budget meat actually is.
