The logo, "Laces" in girlish cursive, coveys the concept perfectlyasneakers for the high-maintenance, high fashion girl or young woman. The male version of the sneaker boutique has become a common sight in the last few years in New York. But instead of manly wooden displays, Laces feels like the other bright, classy spots in its neighborhood. Some of the sneakers can be found at Foot Locker (like Air Maxes), and for the same prices, but many cannot. The owner, Louis W. Colon III, is the only person in the city carrying the full line of Creative Recreation sneakers for women. He also has the brains to carry the full range of sizes, even though most women do not wear the largest ones, because it turns out men covet the colors and styles, too. On Mondays and Tuesdays, shopping is by appointment only. Prepared to be pampered.
