Lansky’s Old World Deli - Closed

235 Columbus Ave. New York, NY 10023 | West 70s | 212-787-0400

Location Description:

Named after a notorious Jewish gangster, newly opened Lansky's aims at being a classic Jewish deli, but also features a broad-ranging dinner menu that includes hamburgers, flounder "schnitzel," and foot-long deep-fried hot dogs with a dozen toppings. Sticking to the iconic deli items, we sampled the corned beef and the pastrami (both decent, but sliced way too thin) and the matzoh ball soup (rich saline broth, lighter-than-air matzoh balls). The piled-high sandwiches are a particularly good deal, and include pickles and cole slaw, but, with The Honeymooners beaming down from the monitor, swing jazz on the P.A., and a snowy haired clientele, you might feel like you're in a retirement home in Boca Raton. As one blogger noted: "It won't replace Katz's."
