Nelson Blue

233 Front St. New York, NY 10038 | South Street Seaport | 212-346-9090

Location Description:

Nelson Blue is the city's only New Zealand bar and restaurant, with a Maori inspired décor and a location on the best street in the Seaport. Peck Slip is a broad cobbled thoroughfare that graceless development somehow forgot, and this Kiwi establishment sends its tables out onto the pavement for some bucolic summer dining. Though the restaurant is particularly proud of its imported lamb chops and mussels, we preferred the plebeian fare: A classic "ploughman's lunch" featuring, in addition to good bread, cheese, and sausage, a pickled beet salad, sliced green apple, plus some random salad stuff (it's called "Cockie's tucker" on the menu, meaning the repast of someone named Cockie). The egg club sandwich--substituting a pair of fried eggs for turkey--is also fab.
