New Tu Do

102 Bowery New York, NY 10002 | Chinatown | 212-966-2666

Location Description:

Skip the pho at this Vietnamese restaurant, which moved from its old home across the street into more luxurious digs, which make you feel like you're in a small, but very well-lit, village. Anything made with beef is worth trying, including a wonderful warm-beef salad (bo luc lac) and fried beef with lemongrass on rice vermicelli (bun bo xao xa). The curries are another good bet, including a chicken curry with potatoes in a fragrant yellow broth (pho carry), which is called "pho," but really bears little resemblance. What's the matter with the pho at Tu Do? The broth is not pungent enough, and tastes too much of cinnamon.
