In the heart of the Middle Eastern enclave of Atlantic Avenue, this shop stands out for its gooey, creamy-tasting halvah and superior house-made pastries. The service is friendly and neighborly, especially when it comes to the ritual slicing of the halvah (plain, marble, pistachio, and all combinations thereof). They make three kinds of the flakiest-ever baklava: pine nut, pistachio, and almond as well as walnut, date, pistachio, and butter cookies; various honey cakes; birdas nests, kounafa, and burma (all forms of shredded dough with nuts and sweet syrup). Of course, the grains, nuts, prepared food, spices, olives, and cheeses are all high quality and well varied. But go there for dessert.
