71 First Ave. New York, NY 10003 | East Village | 212-253-2742

Location Description:

This strictly vegetarian Thai restaurant has the edge, flavor-wise, over many of its meat-bearing East Village competitors, despite the lack of fish sauce in the recipes. Anything made with fake duck is worth eating, especially the miraculous duck salad, wherein the simulacrum functions with near perfect authenticity, sinews and all. Avoid the fake seafood and beef, though, especially chu chee shrimp, in which the TVP looks like it was decorated with a careless red crayon. The best things on the menu feature veggies or tofu representing themselves, especially the towering mushroom salad.
