Named after one of three glittering Uzbekistan cities threaded like pearls on the Silk Road, Samarkand recreates a Central Asian teahouse, complete with steaming pots of green tea, homemade breads, dips for those breads, purse-shaped dumplings, and bargain kebabs. The latter run mainly to lamb and chicken, with the straight lamb kebabs smokier and tenderer than the usual article, while the lamb ribs are slightly less fatty. Bone-in chicken is always a good bet. Finally, pickled vegetables and shredded carrot salad can be deployed to up the roughage content of your meal. Warning--french fries below par.
